Marital closure therapy
Marital closure therapy also known as divorce counseling is a short course of sessions for couples who have decided to end their long-term relationship and want to do so amicably, without acrimony and exorbitant legal fees.
Couples at the point of divorce or permanent separation may face a wide range of challenges such as
- Deep resentment or anger
- Feelings of grief and sadness
- Very negative reaction of their children
- One partner feeling ambivalent about separation
- Disagreements about post-separation financial and custodial arrangements

Marital closure therapy brings awareness to the broad impact that separation has on both individuals and on their family. It aims to re-structure the relationship between the separating partners and allows them to jointly create a constructive plan to ease the transition. Topics commonly explored include
- Establishing safe and respectful communication channels
- Discussion of post-separation arrangements, living, custodial, and financial
- Managing the emotional fallout and grieving process
- Establishing a constructive and amicable post-separation relationship framework with clear boundaries and perhaps new rituals
- Helping both partners come to terms with the new situation, accept and forgive
