Frequently Asked Questions
I accept Aetna and Point 32 Health Insurance for individual therapy. I offer couples therapy as a private-pay service. If you have any questions or would like to explore options, I’d be happy to discuss.
For individual therapy sessions, your only financial responsibility will be your co-pay or deductible that depend on the details of your health insurance policy. Please verify your coverage with your insurance provider. I do not accept insurance for couples therapy, as explained in FAQ “Do you accept insurance?”
My out-of-pocket rate is $180 per session for individual therapy and $250 per session for couples therapy.
I provide all the necessary paperwork for my clients to be reimbursed by their insurance provider directly (Superbill). The amount of the reimbursement will depend on the details of your policy. Please check your out-of network benefits with your insurance provider.
Yes, I do offer free 15 minutes consultations. Please note, however, that this is only a brief informational meeting to give us the opportunity to meet each other and for you to seek clarification on any points not sufficiently explained on my website. It is not a miniature therapy session and is not representative of how actual sessions are conducted.
I encourage clients to commit to a minimum of 12 sessions from the start. The process to achieve meaningful change in a relationship takes time. I have found that 12 sessions is typically sufficient for the partners to get a realistic sense of what is possible and make a determination about continued treatment from there. For some, such as premarital couples, this period may be enough to accept each other and learn the required communication skills to build a solid life together. For others, with years of hurt feelings and resentment, the process may be much longer.
For couples struggling with the decision whether or not to stay together, I offer short-term Discernment Counseling, lasting anywhere from one to five sessions (see Discernment Counseling tab under Services for details). Based on the outcome, either Closure Therapy or Couples Therapy may follow.
